Unfortunately, the picture is even more incomplete when it comes to documenting portrayals of any other racial/ethnic groups in the news-including in crime-related stories, sports coverage, or other contexts. Indeed, when pictured in news stories, Asian Americans appear most often in topics pertaining to business, followed by stories on government issues, then (notably) sports (Rodgers & Thorson, 2000). In sports coverage, similar stereotype-based depictions seem to dominate (Eagleman, 2009; Mayeda, 1999). Here, Asians are again seen as “other” and a financial threat (Mayeda, 1999). Primarily, these representations stem from coverage of Japanese-born players in Major League Baseball, where Asian players' salaries and style of play are a focal point of news reporting. Even less is known about depictions of Asians/Asian Americans in the news. The few studies that exist suggest that some parallels can be drawn between depictions of Blacks and Latinos. Further, data from Dixon, Azocar, and Casas (2003) indicate that Blacks are less likely than other racial/ethnic groups to be shown as victims of violent crime. The preponderance of content analytic research examining characterizations of racial/ethnic minorities in the news has focused on images of Blacks (see Mastro, 2009). Although the manner in which this group is represented in the news varies depending on the topic being covered, two types of depictions appear to be predominant: criminality and athleticism (Billings, 2004; Eastman & Billings, 2001; Entman, 1994). When it comes to news coverage intersecting crime and race, Blacks (particularly males) are portrayed as violent, dangerous, and nameless criminals (Entman, 1992; Oliver, 2003). In addition, they are less likely (compared with Whites) to be shown in professional attire or to be presented in stories offering pro-defense information/imagery or sound-bites (Entman, 1992, 1994). Moreover, Blacks are overrepresented as criminals compared to real-world arrest reports (Dixon & Linz, 2000a). Indeed not only are Blacks disproportionately featured as perpetrators in the news, but this discrepancy is exacerbated when the news reports focus on felony crimes.

Newsworkers see this standardization as a practical necessity that enables them to do their job. Their reliance upon bureaucratic news sources and the standardization of the production process mean that newsworkers routinely define sports news as news about men’s sports. This is why most newspapers devote an entire section to publishing or covering sports updates-to cater to people like yourself. This case study seeks to develop an understanding of why the sports pages of metropolitan daily newspapers are so regularly saturated with news of the major commercial spectator sports world, while noncommercial sports betting receive only a modicum of coverage at best. We used a mail survey of 166 business, news, and sports editors at daily newspapers throughout California. 5. Check your local newspaper's classified ads on a frequent basis since sports cards are usually sold to the first person who inquires and can pay the owner's asking price. Sadly there are many fraudulent websites and forums out there who give these supposedly winning tips but actually these are based on random guesses, pure inexperience or are in fact fraudulent. This does not suggest, however, that these images (or lack thereof) are inconsequential.

However, if you are unable to place this bet, you should stay away from betting on any games they are playing in. Some people are so good at calling who is going to win a game or race that they have managed to make a living this way. For instance, sports sites editors hold the most favorable impressions of public relations and business editors the lrast favorable; editors who completed a college course in public relations view the profession significantly more positively than those who had not. The limited coverage of women in the sports media is not due simply to journalists’ bias against women’s sports. The advantage enjoyed by men’s sports lies in the assumption of greater public interest and the greater resources of men’s commercial sports that guarantee preferred access to the media. An experiment investigates the impact of fan identification on the cognitive and emotional processing of sports-related news media.

Results show that highly identified fans process sports-related news content differently than moderate fans, allocating more cognitive resources and exhibiting greater aversive reactions to the negatively valenced coach. Two coaches were featured; one conceptualized as negatively valenced the other positively. Players participate in short one on one games, or clashes, against other players from all over the world. Yamaha has always been a frontrunner in the world of racing and produces some of the finest machines to the superbike, motocross and quadbiking fraternity. If you were to bet against the spread, most likely you would place a type of bet called an 11-10, or spread bet. At Harrah's Philadelphia, for whatever reason, the leaders often drift to the middle of the track and someone sitting in 5th place is able to go under the front 4 with little resistance. How well you do still depends on you, but a little help never hurt anyone.
